Wright on blogging

NT Wright

It really is high time we developed a Christian ethic of blogging. Bad temper is bad temper even in the apparent privacy of your own hard drive, and harsh and unjust words, when released into the wild, rampage around and do real damage… [I have] a pastoral concern for anyone who spends more than a few minutes a day taking part in blogsite discussions, especially when they all use code names: was it for this that the creator God made human beings?

Was that Tom Wright having a rant?!

IVP have made available 29 or so pages of Wright forthcoming ‘Justification: God’s Plan & Paul’s Vision’. It appears that Wright was prompted to write this tome as a reply to some of the criticism he has been experiencing in some quarters, perhaps most notably and articulately from John Piper. Looks like it’ll be a good one…

Re:Greek is no more…

Sadly, it looks like Re:Greek has had to be taken offline tonight, probably for good. Zack Hubert’s site has been for me one of the most helpful NT language resources that I have used and it will be sorely missed…
It looks like this is because of licensing problems with it’s underlying MorphGNT has has copyright issues with the German Bible Society. To read more see this thread. God speed its successor

Rowan Williams on God

rowan-williams

God is first and foremost that depth around all things and beyond all things into which, when I pray, I try to sink. But God is also the activity that comes to me out of that depth, tells me I’m loved, that opens up a future for me, that offers transformations I can’t imagine. Very much a mystery but also very much a presence. Very much a person…

Have just returned from a stunningly relaxing week in Pembrokeshire. I read ‘Rowan’s Rule’ whilst away which I found to be a fascinating read. Completely by chance, we even bumped into Rowan whilst visiting St Davids Cathedral and had the opportunity hear him read some of his poetry and preach at evensong.

I am impressed by Rowan – at times it does seem as if he is an academic square peg in a political / media round hole but he is serving God as honestly and faithfully as he knows how. He’s made plenty of (big) mistakes, especially in understanding how the media will report what he says, but I think he’s a good bloke 🙂
